All about Rechargeable Lithium ion Batteries
if you use or have some understanding of rechargeable lithium ion batteries before, then let's tlak it directly to how to care rechargeable lithium ion batteries and why?
usually, as we know that lithium ion batteries maintenance have to pay attention to it's max charging voltage at the highest level, the max discharging voltage at the lowest level, and max discharge current at the highest level. then do you know why?
firstly, let's talk about max charging voltage at the highest level.
generally, when rechargeable lithium ion batteries charge aboves 4.2v, when only few lithium ions on the anode materials, high voltage charge will break the electric memory location (or the lattice). That would result in permenant and irreversible capacity drop ability.
while charge the rechargeable lithium ion batteries at 4.2v above voltage, when there are a lotof lithium ions, then extra metal will pile up and form crystals, which will penetrate the isolation film between anode and cathod. That is why so many batteries are bumpt up during charging. When the isolation film is broke, it will cause inner short circuit, bulk of gas will given out and break the valve, therefore gives a bump up as we see.
secondly, the max discharging voltage at the lowest level
do not discharge the battery to the end 2.4v, but 3.0v is the idealest. during 2.4v-3.0v, battery could only gives a power about 3%, it's small but will give damage to battery internal material.
thirdly, max discharge current at the highest level
this is also very important, sudden high drain power input will cause a lot of metal ions piles up suddenly, that will also come up with crystal just like high voltage charging.
