you can divide it into recharge or non-rechargeable battery, you can divide it with anode electrode chemistry characteristic, you can divide it as per it's power charge and discharge performance, you can divide it as per it's shape, you can also divice it as per it's working platform etc.

mostly, you will find as per it's application, for example, the battery is used in solar system, you might understand it as solar battery, but not all so called "solar battery" is a same thing. each battery has it's unique electrical performance, which is used with different intensions and function differs a lot as per it's intension application requirement.

even though, all kinds of prevailing material or techolody has it's advantages and disadvantages. the future Lithium ion battery is still under research. some is successed in research stage but not commercialized yet. each new technique improvement will cover the short comings of the previouse/traditional inventions, so that the society will keep going and advancing. hope the life for our children and our children's kid is much better and better.
